Our Memory Making began when we first married and bought a summer place, a small mobile home, in 1972 around the 3 mile marker in Fort Morgan. It wasn’t much but it was paradise for us! As the years passed by, our family grew, with Frank Jr. in 1975 & Jill in 1978. Needing more room for our growing family, we decided to start building a small house on the same lot. Nothing extravagant, just a small house, built over a period of time. We would come on the weekends to work but spent most of our time enjoying the beach with a little work on the side. We would play at the beach all day; fishing and swimming as often as possible. Both of our kids were water babies; toes in the Gulf waters as early as 6 weeks. We always dreamed of the day we could make the move from Mobile, AL to Fort Morgan and live there full time.
When Hurricane Frederic hit the area in 1979, we saw the opportunity to finally make our dream come true! Frank and his dad did renovations and construction on many of the old homes in Mobile. He learned the trade from his dad starting at a very young age. Among all of the devastation and lost homes from the storm; our little house was one of the only ones still standing strong. Of course we had lots of damage, but it was still liveable. I’ll tell you, going up and down a ladder carrying 2 small kids and groceries was not for the faint at heart. After our neighbors saw that our home had survived, many of them asked Frank if he would build back their lost homes. So that is where the adventure really started.
As Frank built the houses, the homeowners began asking if we could rent their homes since we were in Ft. Morgan. I decided to get my real estate license in 1982 and worked for a company in Gulf Shores for many years. Frank and I decided to branch out and take another leap of faith, I got my Broker’s license and we opened Reed Real Estate in 1988. Our first office was located downstairs of our home, where it all began. Before we knew it, the few houses we managed turned into more houses to manage and we out grew our little home office so we built the current office where we are still located.
We have been incredibly blessed over the years and were fortunate enough to fall into a job that we both loved and could enjoy together. We love sharing our slice of heaven with our guests, now seeing generations of familes that have been renting with us from the beginning. We appreciate all of our guests and homeowners for trusting us to handle your beach vacations and assist in buying your own piece of paradise! Cheers to many years to come.
