A Hidden Paradise – Fort Morgan Beaches

Fort Morgan PeninsulaWhat if there was a place off the beaten path, with secluded private beaches and beautiful beach homes….not surrounded by high rise condominiums but surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes? Well, there is. It is called the Fort Morgan Peninsula. It is becoming more of a popular destination for vacationers wanting to really get away from it all, yet be close enough to the “touristy attractions” just in case they choose to participate.

Wars Alabama Fort MorganFt. Morgan peninsula stretches 22 miles west of the City of Gulf Shores. It has the beautiful Gulf of Mexico on the south side and Mobile Bay on the north side, as well as Little Lagoon closer into the city limits of Gulf Shores. Here you can enjoy relaxing on the beautiful beaches, great fishing and crabbing, exploring the historical Fort Morgan and much more.

Secluded BeachesThere are a few delicious restaurants along the peninsula we suggest you try during your stay. Tacky Jacks II is located almost at the end of Ft. Morgan Road and offers breathtaking views of Mobile Bay. They offer casual dining, which is pretty much the way everything is down here:), with delicious seafood and amazing breakfast (the farmers omelet is the best)! Sassy Bass is a newer spot to eat down here that has gotten some rave reviews by our guests and us too:) Sassy Bass is also the new owner of Plaza West Grocery and Package Store, which is great to pick up any “last minute” groceries or beach items. One last great spot to eat down here is Behind the Pines. It offers a great, laid back atmosphere with delicious food and often has live music.

Bummin' It

Other than that… what you are going to find is beach, beach and more beach! Major grocery shopping is apx. 20 minutes from most of our rental houses however there is a grocery delivery service we recommend called HomeAway Groceries. They will have all of your items stocked in your beach house before you even arrive. No need to waste valuable beach time waiting in line at the supermarket after your long drive. It’s so easy and affordable. Just log onto their website, order your items from their virtual grocery store, pay with a credit card, and they will handle the rest.

RelaxationWhat else is needed for a perfect week at the beach? Beach Equipment!!! Call Beach Bum Services for all of your bummin’ needs. They have wind resistant beach canopies and chairs available for rent as well as beach umbrellas, boogie boards and barbecue grills. Just place your order online or by phone and they will have everything set up for you on your arrival day. They set up and secure the beach canopies at your beach home for the week, then come and take them down after your stay. What a wonderful idea!!!

We can’t wait to share our hidden paradise with you!

Another Big Fish Story

Fishing on the Alabama Gulf CoastFishing on the Alabama Gulf Coast can be fun at any time of year as long as you know what you’re doing! Even as an experienced fisherman I can say every fishing trip is a learning experience…but who says learning can’t be fun!!! The Alabama Gulf Coast is fast becoming one of the most sought after areas to saltwater fish due to its large charter fishing fleets (Gulf Shores Marina, Zeke’s Marina, Sanroc Cay Marina, Etc.), incredible participation of local and governmental agencies that help encourage fish population growth, and the quick and easy access to great inshore and offshore fishing spots.

A lot of what you want to know can be found online on the many different informational websites, but how do you know what is good info and what is just non-sense? A great start to learning about what, when, and where to fish can be found on the Alabama Department of Conservation and Wildlife website; they even have a downloadable app for iPhone users. This site will allow you to buy a fishing license, identify fish species, open/closed fishing seasons, length requirements, give coordinates for public fishing reefs, and much more. It is a great start if you’re planning on bring your boat on a fishing vacation and striking out on your own, though a charter and fishing guide is always a good decision for those unfamiliar with our coastal waters and weather.

Another great site for those more avid and knowledgable folks look to improve your fishing experience is tides4fishing.com. This site gives tide and solunar tables for fishing in any area, but you can specify where you are targeting for the ultimate fishing experience. This site helps break it down in easy to understand terms and tables, keeping you from trying to keep up with all the confusing fishing and solar data and cycles.

Next, check out the NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) Marine Forecast website for the northern Gulf Coast. This will give inshore and offshore wave height and weather forecast for specific areas which is extremely helpful to remain safe while on the water fishing or boating; I depend on this every time I plan a trip…SAFETY FIRST!

Last, but not least… WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO STAY while on that fishing vacation or getaway??? Reed Real Estate offers many Bay front, Lagoon Front, and Gulf Front homes, some of which have fishing piers or boat docks to keep your boat or you can just fish right from the dock from while relaxing in the sun. Our Bay front and Lagoon front homes are a great beginning to any fisherman or fisherwoman’s dream vacation, each with their own amazing views and differences that are perfect for any group. Give us a call at 1-800-678-2306 or visit our website at www.gulfrentals.com to get started today and let us know how your fishing experience went…we all love a good fishing story!
